PAST AND CURRENT PROJECTS

Here are some of the projects we have been working on.

THE COMMUNITY GARDEN

Since we left Nun’s Way, where we had planting in the ground and moved to Campkin Road Community Centre with a paved courtyard garden, we have been looking for another venue.

We are now in the process of developing a Community Garden outside North Cambridge Academy. There will be four separate, distinct areas- a fruit garden, a herb garden, a wild flower meadow, and a small array of allotment plots bounded by the existing orchard. Work begins
in February 2026.

If you want to volunteer or put your name down for a small starter allotment plot, please contact talk@nccp.org.uk

MEET AND EAT

NCCP hosts North Cambridge networking meetings several times a year. This is for all
people and organisations in the King’s Hedges and Arbury area who want to get involved, have a say, or find out what is happening in our local community. There will be a free lunch, with time to get to know each other and discuss your interests.

If you are a local group and would like to join, please email: talk@nccp.org.uk

CODING CLUB

The Coding Club is one of the highlights of our community projects, and is now Coding is known as a basic literacy in the digital age. This is a great opportunity to provide young people with the digital skills they need in the future when they begin their careers.

It is hoped that learning code will also help children with communication, creativity, math, writing, and most importantly, self-confidence. The coding club is open to all North Cambridge community members aged from 8 to 14 years old, and everyone, regardless of the level of their computer skills, is eligible and welcome to join in.

We helped set up another Coding club in North Cambridge Academy. This reduced the number of participants to 4 to 6, but currently, they are all girls.  This is unusual as it is difficult to enroll girls in such courses. Most do not have access to a computer at home, and this impedes their progress. We are actively pursuing ways to overcome this.

To register for a free place or to find out more about the coding club, please email talk@nccp.org.uk

YOUTH CLUB

After consultation with the community, we decided to offer activities for the local teenagers. We ran a pilot 10 week Youth club project, where attendees could learn ukulele, guitar, draw, paint, and chat. Pizza was also popular.

It is being reviewed at present to tweak the timing and the program.

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS AND SANTA

We had a wonderful turnout for the annual Christmas tree light-up.

The local traders supported the event with donations of money and free refreshments. Alex Wood House sponsored the Christmas tree. The NCCP and COGS put in the labour and organisation.

Father Christmas was consulted by 120 local school children after they had performed their carols.

REPAIR CAFÉ

We held NCCP’s first Repair Cafe in May. In Campkin Road Community Centre.

There was strong demand, and the booking slots filled quickly.

Over 30 items were examined, and 23 were fully restored to working order by local volunteers

However, the venue was unsuitable.

We are now planning our next Repair Café in the spring at North Cambridge Academy. Date to be confirmed.
