New Creative writing workshop at the Botanic Gardens

Launching this spring, Seasonal Garden Poetics is a new creative writing workshop series in the Botanic Garden that invites participants to explore the changing seasons through poetry, prose, and attentive observation. Each session begins with a quiet walk in the garden, gathering colours, textures, scents and sensory details, before moving indoors for guided readings, discussion and creative exercises.

This supportive and welcoming session, led by award-winning writer Caroline Druitt, is open to all ability levels. The spring workshop, on Saturday 14 March 10:30-12:30, stands alone but also introduces a year-long journey through the seasons, focusing on themes of emergence, renewal and our relationship with place. Participants are welcome to join for spring only or return for future sessions across summer, autumn and winter. These are provisionally booked for 10:30-12:30 on Saturday 13 June and 19 September.

Got extra seeds from last season? Bring them along—or come empty-handed! Our free seed swap is all about sharing, learning, and growing together. Exchange seeds, discover new varieties, and chat with fellow gardeners of all experience levels.

While you’re here, learn about a new community garden launching this spring in NCA. We’ll be sharing plans, answering questions, and inviting neighbours to get involved. Whether you’d like to volunteer your time, donate resources, or just stay in the loop, there’s a place for you.

No cost, no pressure—just seeds, community, and the start of something growing.

If you enjoy repairing, tinkering, teaching, or just being part of a positive community atmosphere, we’d love your help. We’re looking for volunteers in areas such as:

• Repairing small appliances, electronics, bikes, or furniture

• Sewing, mending, or textile repairs

• Tool handling or general fixing

• Event setup, welcoming visitors, and coordination
