NCCP is delighted to have partnered with 'A Toys Life and Beyond CIC' to deliver this new and exciting project called 'Little Rainbows Toy Library'

Little Rainbows Toy Library is different, for although it runs like a typical toy library, children are also encouraged to develop their language and communication skills. This is what we call a 'toy library with a twist'.

The format of Little Rainbows Toy Library is that parents/carers and children come every week where they get to talk, do different activities and play. They will also have a book read to them every week and parents/carers get to borrow toys related to the book, together with a question sheet and tips. All these are designed to encourage their children's communication and language skills at home. And this is what makes this toy library very different from others.

All is free to join/ drop in/ free lunch every Tuesday: 10:00 to 12pm at Nun’s Way Pavilion, Nuns Way CB4 2RN.

    Coding Club!

We are working in partnership with Cambridge City Council, Red Hen Project and the Raspberry Pi Foundation, offering local children a chance to learn computer programming. With the help of brilliant volunteers, children can now attend the CoderDojo every Tuesday!

Children will gain an understanding of commuter programming languages and anyone from seven to seventeen can visit a Dojo where they can learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game, and explore technology in an informal, creative and social environment.

New laptops have been provided by Cambridge City Council for use at the CoderDojo, so all can join in and learn this important new skill and have fun too.

"Encouraging children to have  aspirations and a sense of the possible is so important to their wellbeing and crucial for their future life prospects" Sarah Crick (Red Hen Project)

NCCP is delighted to have partnered up with a Toy's Life and Beyond CIC to deliver this new and exciting project called 'Little Rainbows Toy Library'

Little Rainbows Toy Library is different as although it runs  like a typical toy library, children are encouraged to develop their language skills. This is what we call a 'toy library with a twist'.

The format of Little Rainbows Toy Library is that parents/carers and children come every week and they get to talk, do different activities and play. They will also have a book to read to them every week and parents/carers get to borrow toys related to the book, together with a question sheet and tips. All these are designed to encourage their childrens communication and language skills at home. And this is what makes this toy library very different from the others.

We are delighted that Talking Together in Cambridgeshire had funded this project and hopefully it will be one of many more to come.

Little Rainbows meets every Tuesday at Nun's Way Pavilion, Nun's Way, CB4 2RN from 10am to 123pm and is free to join, just drop in, free lunch provided!

NCCP are working in partnership with Cambridge City Council, Red Hen Project and The Raspberry Pi Foundation, offering local children a chance to learn computer programming. With the help of brilliant volunteers, children can now attend the CoderDojo every Tuesday 4 - 5:30pm at the Nun's Way Pavilion.

Anyone aged from 7 to 17 can visit a Dojo where they can learn to code, build a website, create an app or game and explore technology in an informal, creative and social environment. This is a wonderful chance for all children, especially those without internet or computer access to have fun whilst learning new skills, thus encouraging children to have aspirations and a sense of the possible in respect of future growth and life prospects.

Acience Club resumes on Wednesday 23rd April! Across these five sessions we will be exploring our survival skills and thinking how we can use science to help cope with a new disease. This is known as HAVOC, and has infected millions of people, making them develop strange behaviours, including a tendency to be a little bit bitey!

A small band of elite scientists, codenamed STEMClub, i.e. your young people, will be the group who have survived the initial apocalypse and escaped to a secret laboratory in the woods outside Cambridge. Unfortunately the lab has not been used for a while, and they had to escape quickly, so there are not as many essential provisions in the hide-out as they might want. Can your young people work together to complete challenges to demonstrate resilience, creativity and scientific skills to help others survive the apocalypse?

These sessions are aimed at ages 7-11.

Science Club will take place every Wednesday between 4:20-5:20pm from 23rd April - 21st May, and is at Cambridge Science Centre (The Trinity Centre, Cambridge Science Park, Milton Road, Cambridge, CB4 0FN). There are bike stands and car parking available on site. You can sign your young people up for the club here: https://forms.gle/5NwThK1fqHGbahYCA

We are also able to offer a complementary minibus to provide return transport from Campkin Road Community Centre to the Science Centre for those that need help accessing our location. Spaces for this are provided on a first come first served basis, so please only sign up for this if it is needed. You can found the minibus registration here: https://forms.gle/snZNrpVCCkMgfvYt5
(Only complete this form once you have completed the Science Club Booking Form)

We look forward to seeing your young people from 23rd April!

On Thursday 12th June, NCCP hosted a meeting with the University and Local Community  to discuss plans for improved  provision of  community services

A constructive discussion  took place between representatives from Cambridge university and members of the surrounding community to address shared concerns and explore ways to enhance community provision. Many young people from North Cambridge Academy voiced their opinions and were forthright in their views of what the university should be doing in their area

The meeting, held at Arbury Court Library, focused on a range of issues including access to recreational facilities,  housing, transport  environmental sustainability, and support services for residents.

There is stark contrast in wealth between the  university and the nearby Arbury community .While the university boasts expansive resources, multi-million-pound developments, and international prestige, Arbury—just a short distance away—struggles with underfunded services, limited job opportunities, and aging infrastructure. Many residents feel overlooked and left behind as investment and attention are concentrated on university-led initiatives

The university  wishes to play a more active role in addressing the divide Suggestions such as targeted outreach programs, community grants, and partnerships that directly benefit Arbury’s residents were put forward.

We await the outcome of these conversations.

On 12th June, NCCP hosted representatives of Nat West, Andrew and Chloe who spent several hours advising groups of students from North Cambridge Academy about scams and frauds.

They advised that scams and fraud come in many forms—online, over the phone, in person, or through the post. They gave guidance to help  recognize, avoid, and respond to scams and fraud.

    Scammers often:

    • Pretend to be someone you trust, like a government agency, tech support, bank, or even a family member.

    • Create a sense of urgency, pressuring you to act quickly

    • Ask for personal info or money,

    • Use untraceable methods and may spoof caller IDs, websites, or emails to look legitimate

    How to Avoid Being Scammed
    1. Verify the source: Contact the company or person through official channels—not using the number or link they gave you.

    2. Don’t click suspicious links or download unknown attachments.

    3. Use strong, unique passwords and enable 2-factor authentication on accounts.

    4. Monitor bank and credit statements regularly.

    5. Install reputable antivirus and security software.

    Phone & Email Scam Tips

    • Never give out personal or financial info via unsolicited calls or emails.

    • Hang up and call back using a known number (e.g., from a company website).

    • Use email spam filters, and mark suspicious emails as junk.

    Online & Social Media Safety

    • Be sceptical of online shopping deals that seem unreal.

    • On social media, avoid sharing too much personal info that could help scammers guess passwords or security questions.

Although the students are as yet too young to have bank accounts, they showed they were aware of some of the criminal activity involved in financial dealings. They are now better prepared,

We had an exciting day at the Sidgwick exploring the vast array of towering magnificent fossils, beautiful colourful rocks and minerals. The staff entertained and fascinated us with the collection, and then gave the children a trail to follow and quiz to pique their interest further.

Par1 1 – Introduction to Physical Computing and Raspberry Pi
Learners will be introduced to what physical computing is, how Raspberry Pi works, and how it can be used to control the physical world. This will include setting up the devices and exploring simple input/output.
Part 2 – Layers of Computing & Programming with Scratch
We’ll look at the layers of computing systems (hardware, operating systems, applications) and then use Scratch/Python on the Raspberry Pi to build some simple interactive programs. This links the conceptual side of computing with practical programming skills.
Part 3 – Controlling the Physical World with Raspberry
PiLearners will build on what they’ve learned by programming the Raspberry Pi to interact with real-world components (e.g. LEDs, sensors, or motors). This will show how software and hardware connect to create tangible projects.
